Secdea Beach Resort is probably one of the top resorts you can find on Samal Island. It offers modern luxury accommodation and is an ideal destination for a relaxing getaway.
I’ve visited the resort three times: first, shortly after it opened, which I shared on my Wander Adventures at 20s blog; and most recently, for my birthday in 2022. Each visit has shown me how the resort has changed over the years. Although costs have increased, there are now more amenities available.
How To Get There
Located in San Isidro, Babak District, and just a 20-30 minute drive from Samal Port. You can use Google Maps to help you navigate and avoid getting lost.
Secdea offers private van transport that you might want to book.
FYI: If it’s your first time visiting Samal Island and you’re going to bring your private vehicle, expect a long queue from Davao port to Samal port. Depending on the day, but there’s a big chance of long queues, especially on weekends and Holidays.
There are two ports you can take from Davao to Samal (and vice versa) that operate 24/7:
Mae Wess Ferry Terminal
Also known as Samal Ferry Terminal.
Davao Port Location: Km 11, Sasa, Davao City.
Samal Port Location: Samal Ferry Terminal, Babak District (Near Camp Holiday Resort)
Travel Time (Davao to Samal): 15-20minutes
Barge Rates:
Per Person (no vehicle) – Php 20
Light Vehicle- Php 250 (1 driver, 3 passengers free)
Bonggo, Canter, Elf, and Mini Dump Truck – Php 300
Motorcycle and Bicycle – Php 100
Tricycle – Php 200
Davsam Ferry Wharf
Davao Port Location: at Km 13, Panacan, Davao City (near NCCC Panacan)
Samal Port Location: Port of Babak, Babak District
Barge Rates:
Per Person (no vehicle) – Php 20
Light Vehicle- Php 250 (1 driver, 3 passengers free)
Bonggo, Canter, Elf, and Mini Dump Truck – Php 300
Motor – Php 60 (free 2 pax)
**You can purchase a roundtrip ticket to get a discount from them.**
Personal Review: I prefer their terminal in Samal as they have a comfortable waiting area and a cleaner bathroom. (just my preference)

Beach
The beach features more tiny pebbles than white sand, which may not appeal to everyone, although improvements have been made to the shoreline.
Accommodation
The rooms are clean and provide a relaxing atmosphere, making for a pleasant stay.
Food
The food is good and adds to the overall experience.
Amenities
Though they didn’t have an outstanding beach, they make it up with their amenities — from their 2 big pools to their Mangrove sanctuary and more.
