2 Years of Blogging: Updates, Mistakes, and Future Plans

Hey there! I still can’t believe that this month I’m celebrating my 2 years of blogging. Where did the time go? I’m so happy and grateful.

Today, I aim to share with you a few updates about my blog, the lessons, and mistakes from blogging, and what I plan for My Wander Story.

Blog Updates

I started My Wander Story as my way of documenting my travels and my dream of becoming a one-stop hub for travel tips and advice. Honestly, I wasn’t able to keep up with all my travel goals and my blogging goals as well. Creating content and making an online brand while working a full-time job is difficult but I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished so far.

Here are my top 5 blog posts:

  1. Travel Guide: How to Get to Siargao Island, Philippines
  2. Costa Marina Beach Resort in Samal Island
  3. Blue Bless Beach Resort in Mati, Davao Oriental
  4. Isla Reta Beach Resort at Talikud Island
  5. San Victor Island: A Must Visit in Baganga

Average Monthly Pageviews: 2,600

Average Monthy New Visitors: 1,600

Blogging Mistakes and Lessons I’ve Learned

Blogging has been part of my full-time job for 8 years and we’ve been encouraged to blog back in college. I may have the idea of starting a blog and experienced on managing one but things weren’t as easy as I thought it would be.

My employer has been the biggest influence on why I started blogging again. And she’s an amazing woman who inspires thousands of women (including me) to live a fulfilling life. I’m so honored and grateful to be working with/for her.

When I hit rock bottom three years back, I’ve been fighting to get over my anxiety and depression. Traveling helped me heal my soul and gave me the peace of mind I’ve been seeking for a long time. My family and friends have been very supportive along the way, so grateful of them. I decided that I’m gonna blog the good memories and the exciting adventures I had.

But blogging has have been very challenging for me. Here are a few mistakes I’ve learned from 2 years of blogging:

1. Fear of Being Judge

Honestly, my biggest hurdle in blogging is my fear of not being good enough. So I started anonymously and slowly getting the confidence of putting myself on to this blog and even on my social media accounts. Writing articles has never been my forte and I’m scared about what other people might think about it. So much fear, self-doubts, and felt like I’m not good enough, this is not good enough, and it’s not perfect enough. I was trying to make things perfect.

Lesson: It’s good to take imperfect actions. I learned that I will never be able to move forward with my blog if I always fear what other people think and trying to make everything perfect. Blogging is a journey of personal growth and learning.

2. Not Having a Goal and a Plan

When I started blogging, I was busy working a fulltime job (still), studying the Japanese language, and making errands for the family. I had a hard time staying consistent. I’m not planning ahead of time. Feeling stressed and overwhelmed trying to produce contents.

Lesson: Staying consistent is important because people will come to your site and always want to see something new. Planning ahead at least 2-3 weeks in advance with ideas and topics would be helpful in creating content that you can get out and blogging will actually be fun.

3. Procrastinating My Tasks

Too much thinking and not enough doing. Yes, I’m guilty! I have those days where I make plans to create a post on my recent travels but I’m not taking action and doing it.

Lesson: Don’t think too much and start doing more than you are thinking about it. Stop saying you are going to do it and just actually do it.

My Focus for the Next 6 Months

I sat down and really thought about myself, my blog, and my plans. Half of 2019 is almost over and I want to focus on improving my blog for the next 6 months. So, I listed down my goal, plans, and the actions I will take in making everything possible.

My Goal:

Publish 1 post per week every Wednesday and increase page views to 30,000 monthly. Be more active and connect with people on social media.

My Plan:

I will try my best to apply the lessons that I’ve earned on this 2-year blogging journey. I plan to focus more on improving my blog and staying CONSISTENT.

Action to Take:

Plan ahead of time with my blog and social media posts at least 2-3 weeks or even a month early. Not be afraid and take imperfect actions.

That’s it for now! I hope you enjoyed my blogging journey. If you have a blog, please leave a comment below about your blog and your blogging journey. I’d love to hear and would love to connect with you!

Kudos and more power!
